Highland Clinic, APMC receives ‘better performer’ status from the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA)
MGMA has recognized Highland Clinic as a “better performer” in 2018 because of superior operational performance compared with similar medical group practices nationwide.
Highland Clinic is the only physician-owned multi-specialty clinic in the Shreveport-Bossier City area. Our clinic opened their doors over 100 years ago with over 700 years of combined clinical experience including 18 specialties, 40 physicians and 20 mid-level providers. Our mission is to exceed public expectations for comprehensive, convenient and quality healthcare for all generations.
We have participated in the MGMA surveys for more than 20 years. We have received recognition from MGMA as a better performer in “accounts receivable and collections” and “patient satisfaction” in six of the most recent seven years. We work diligently with the patient to make sure the patient’s experience exceeds their expectation and that means from the time the patient makes the appointment to the payment of the insurance claim. We capture accurate insurance information when the patient presents for their appointment in an effort to mitigate any billing issues. Our Business Office has a great management team that does an excellent job of seeing the patient bill through the process by insuring proper coding to getting reimbursement from the insurance company. “The patient’s experience is the first impression and the billing component is the last impression that represents our clinic. We do our very best to make sure we get it right,” says Debbie Smith, CEO of Highland Clinic.
MGMA reevaluates the better performer metrics and recently moved the focus to fit the ever-changing field of healthcare. The four areas of focus for recognition that provide a more holistic view of healthcare practices include Operations, Profitability, Productivity and Value. This year MGMA recognized Highland Clinic as a “better performer” in “productivity” as well as “value.” “Both of these are important because they are key indicators of just how important patients are to our physicians,” says Smith. The physicians have increased their schedule to be able to work more patients into their day without compromising quality and value. It is the foundation that has kept our doors open for over 100 years.
Receiving this reward is a great report card for Highland Clinic and also for our patients and speaks highly of our efforts. We are very pleased to be recognized by such a reputable organization that gathers benchmarking data from medical groups throughout the United States.
