Highland Clinic Ophthalmology is now seeing patients at their new location 471 Ashley Ridge Blvd near 3132 Inner Loop and Ellerbe Road.
An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor with additional specialized training in all aspects of eye care - medical, surgical, and optical.
They differ from an optometrist and optician by their level of training and what they can treat. They are licensed to practice medicine and surgery. Ophthalmologists complete four years of college, four years of medical school, one year of internship, and three years, at least, of residency (hospital based training) in diagnosis and medical, and surgical treatment of eye disorders.
The ophthalmology department also provides a full service optical shop, Ashley Ridge Optical, that can assist any patient in purchasing eyeglasses, contacts and accessories.
