Diabetes & Nutrition Center

Highland Clinic opened the Highland Clinic Diabetes and Nutrition Center on Monday, March 9, 2009.

The Diabetes and Nutrition Center will provide education and support to people with diabetes, helping them to manage their condition and lead happy, healthier lives. Also accepted will be referrals for non-diabetic nutrition counseling to include such areas as weight loss, pregnancy, hyperlipidemia, hypertension and bariatrics. We plan to add insulin pump therapy education in the near future.

Lisa Stansbury, MS, LDN, RD, CDE and Jan Hoefler, RN, CDE, both Certified Diabetes Educators will oversee the clinic. Lisa and Jan have more than 40 years combined experience working with patients of all ages who have diabetes and other conditions that require individualized education, attention and support.

This qualified staff will be transferring to the Highland Clinic from CHRISTUS Schumpert’s former Diabetes and Outpatient Nutrition Center. This experienced staff recognizes how important it is for patients to learn to fit their diagnosis into their present lifestyle, and how to modify their present lifestyle to fit and support their condition(s). The staff will be available to teach people how to self-manage their diabetes and will offer individualized instruction on a variety of topics, including blood glucose control, nutrition, home blood-glucose monitoring, safe medication use, insulin injections and insulin pump therapy.

The center will be located on the first floor of the clinic and will be open during the following hours:
Monday           1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Tues-Thurs       8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
