Deborah Barron is a licensed Physicians Assistant practicing in internal medicine. She practices internal medicine with Dr. Persson. She completed her degree and training at LSU and LSUMC, and graduated Magna-Cum Laude of her class.
Physician Assistants are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. A physician assistant is a representative of the physician, treating the patient in the style and manner developed and directed by the supervising physician. PAs conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, and in virtually all states can write prescriptions. Physician assistants exercise autonomy in medical decision making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.
PA-C stands for physician assistant certified. A person who holds that title has met the defined course of study and has undergone testing by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. To maintain the "C" after "PA", a physician assistant must log 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and take the recertification exam every six years.
Deborah has worked at Highland Clinic since 1999. She began in the Family Practice Department and joined Dr. Flenniken in the Internal Medicine Department. She has also worked as a First Assistant in surgery with several of our Orthopaedic physicians. Deborah began working with Dr. Cooksey in Dermatology in November 2002 and with Dr. Persson in Internal Message in August 2005.
Her husband is in the oil business and they have three sons, Joshua, Jacob and Jared Barron.
